Since our founding in 1996, we have been at the forefront of efforts to improve human rights in North Korea. Our activities include international conferences and advocacy campaigns, rescue and relief efforts for North Korean refugees, leadership development programs for young defectors, settlement support for North Korean refugees, and initiatives to raise global awareness of North Korean human rights issues.
Through the testimonies and memoirs of North Korean defectors, we bring to light the realities of human rights conditions in North Korea, giving a voice to those who have lived through them.
NKHR is a non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to raising global awareness of North Korean human rights issues, supporting North Korean defectors, and promoting human rights education.

As a model of a true civic organization rooted in democracy, we take pride in continuing our journey with dedication and perseverance.

In essence, our activities represent a civic movement in their foundation, an international movement in orientation, a peace movement in historical lesson, and a unification movement in their broader impact.

Founded in Seoul in 1996, we were the first organization worldwide to focus on North Korean human rights, operating as a non-profit, non-religious, and non-political NGO
