Letter from the Secretary General

Dear friends of NKHR,

Spring has come again, and we are already nearing early summer.
Although the weather is warm, there are still many cold winds in the world that chill our hearts.

Recently, heartbreaking news about North Korean defectors has reached us.
We heard that even children who crossed the river with their mothers were forcibly repatriated.
Each time we hear such stories, our hearts ache deeply.

NKHR continues its efforts to protect and rescue North Korean refugees in China and Southeast Asia.
With your help, several defectors have recently been safely rescued.

However, there are still many more hiding in fear, unable to move freely, waiting desperately for help.
We sincerely ask for your continued support so that we can bring them to safety as soon as possible.

Thank you always for walking with us in the work of protecting life and freedom.

We would like to share with you stories of those who were rescued.

A mother and child who spent nights in fear
A mother who crossed the river with her four-year-old child hid for months in mountains and fields,
surviving on grass and scraps while trembling in fear of being caught.
Finally, with the help of supporters, they reached safety.
The mother wept, saying, “I thought we would die without anyone knowing.”
Now, she is learning to dream again of a life with dignity and peace.

A young woman who prayed for just one more day to live
She escaped alone and wandered between borders for months, starving and sick.
At one point, she could barely move, but she endured with a single thought—
that she must live to tell the world about those left behind.
With the help of NKHR and our donors, she was rescued and is now recovering.

We sincerely thank all of you who extended your hands to save these precious lives.
Every donation, every prayer, and every act of care becomes a bridge to freedom for them.

We need your continued help.

There are still many defectors in hiding.
The risk of forced repatriation has become even more severe,
and many live each day in fear of being sent back.

Your donation gives them a chance to live and to hope for freedom.
