[North Korean Enforced Disappearances] Youth Workshop Held in Cheorwon to Commemorate the Day of Remembrance for Korean War Abductees
The Citizens' Coalition for North Korean Human Rights continues to speak out for the resolution and realization of justice for the victims of the numerous enforced disappearances perpetrated by North Korea.
To commemorate the Korean War Abductees Remembrance Day (June 28), the North Korean Human Rights Citizens' Coalition held a two-day youth memorial workshop in the border region of Cheorwon from June 27 to 28, 2025. This memorial day is officially designated under Article 11-2, Paragraph 1 of the 「Act on the Remembrance of Korean War Abductees」. Its purpose is to reflect on the suffering of citizens abducted or forcibly repatriated by North Korea during the Korean War and to enhance social awareness and solidarity with the victims and their families.
Youth activists from the Citizens' Coalition for North Korean Human Rights who participated in the workshop discussed wartime abductions and the value of freedom. They visited key historical sites such as the Cheorwon Labor Party Headquarters and the Victory Observatory, gaining insight into the region's complex history. This experience also strengthened their resolve to advocate for human rights.
