[Enforced Disappearances in North Korea] Consultation with CED on Utilizing the Republic of Korea's Ratification of the Convention to Address Enforced Disappearances in North Korea
The Citizens' Coalition for North Korean Human Rights continues to advocate for resolution and justice for the victims of the numerous enforced disappearances perpetrated by North Korea.
On May 12, 2025, the North Korean Human Rights Citizens' Coalition participated in a session for civil society and national human rights institutions hosted by the UN Committee on Enforced Disappearances (CED).
The Coalition specifically requested expert advice regarding the abduction of South Korean citizens by North Korean regime agents within South Korean territory. It also discussed how South Korea's ratification of the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance (ICPPED) could be utilized to raise the issue of enforced disappearances by North Korean authorities with the CED.
